January should have us in the middle of our deep w January should have us in the middle of our deep winter freeze 🥶 However, we’re experiencing temps just hovering at the freezing mark.

We are disappointed we haven’t been able to get out on our new snowshoes or cross country skiing. That said, winter hikes are still beautiful!

The only thing that stops you from getting outside is not dressing right for the weather!

Anyone else feel the difference waking amongst the trees?

About six years ago, we planted a bunch of milkweed around the ponds in our neighbourhood, and thankfully, there are lots of plants in the long grass patches around the park now. It was a great naturalist project to do with our daughter and we tried this again a couple years ago with purple cone flowers and black eyed susans. Those seeds (we think) were eaten by mice and we need to try gorilla gardening them again this spring.

Has anyone else made seed bombs or wildflower planning around them?

Campground Review: Bronte Creek Provincial Park

    January 7, 2020 /

If you’re looking for a place to camp near Toronto, we highly recommend the campground at Bronte Creek Provincial Park.  Camping at Bronte Creek is perfect for visiting the Greater Toronto Area. The city is just a short train ride away, eliminating the hassle (and expense) of parking in Toronto. In the other direction, Niagara Falls and the Niagara wine region are less than an hour away. We have so many great things to say about Bronte that we’re going to split this review into two parts. In this first part, we’ll talk about the Bronte Creek campground. Read on to learn more or jump to our campground summary.  Bronte…

Campground Review: Valens Lake Conservation Area

    December 3, 2019 /

Valens campground, located within Valens Lake Conservation Area, located between Hamilton and Cambridge, Ontario, is one of our favourite local campgrounds. Read our review to learn why or jump to our summary. Valens campground location Valens Lake is a short drive off Highway 6, sort of between Hamilton and Cambridge Ontario. It’s an easy drive to get there, even when towing a big rig, with paved roads and good signage. Valens campground is a good distance from main highways, so road noise is not an issue. However, if you don’t like waking to the sound of cows mooing in the distance you may want to “moove” on. As with many…
